In the life， some losses are inevitable， we should treat by the optimistic manner， cannot be calculating.

Finally， the novel sees by one youth the senior fisherman fully has 18 foot long big marlin in the measure， once more described this fish’s hugeness， explained senior fisherman overcomes the difficulty was big， non— was more common than.

The novel eulogized the spirit which the senior fisherman fear hard and dangerous diligently did not struggle， we also should like his such， could not satisfy the present situation， should positively to above， do any matter all is relentless， meets difficultly must welcome difficultly above， could give up halfway in no way. I was very favor of a section of music in its balls. It’s pretty brisk， liked a wonderful song of a bird. Regarding to the characters， I liked Elizabeth， the he—ro—in—e，though I didn’t think she’s beautiful. But she’s smart.

However， I didn’t pay much attention to the plot. I thought it’s so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now， I haven’t read the whole story in English or its Chinese version， either. I owe it to my prejudice. In fact， I didn’t understand the story at that time. I didn’t know why it called Pride and Prejudice. Of course someone was pride， but I didn’t find where’ s the prejudice. I thought it’s normal， the way people treated each other in that. I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movie everthing was OK in my minds， except its length. Now， I think I have understood more about it.

I’m a prejudiced person so I can’t find where’s wrong.

I merely like to do the things I like. Everytime I meet somebody or something，my thinking about he or it all depends on my foregone experience and my mood of the time.

A man is not born for failure. One can destroy， but not defeat.

A simple story， a simple old fisherman， a big marlin， on the vast sea， staged a seemingly simple and extraordinary story.

It tells the story of an old fisherman named San Diego who came across a surprisingly large marlin after 84 days without a fish. After three days and three nights of battle， the old man finally killed the big marlin. On the return voyage， however， the shark was attacked by the shark， and the old man bravely fought the shark， but when he returned to the harbor， the huge marlin was left with a bare skeleton.

One can fail， but not defeat， the external body can accept it， but the inner will is sacrosanct， which is the argument of the old man and the sea. The big marlin is like what we pursue， that a group of sharks are inevitable doom， unpredictable sea is like a kaleidoscope， the fickleness of human society， there are plenty of people are like the old man， brave to capture their petitions， never say die.

From the perspective of the secular concept of victory， the old fisherman is not a final winner， because although he beat the big marlin start， but in the end the big marlin or let the shark eat， he is just with the big marlin at the back to the shore， that is to say， the shark is the winner. I readwhen I was in junior middle school. At that time I do not know why the old man persists to take dentuso back. It’s so dangerous to fight with sharks. But he did not give up.

But now I’m really proud of Santiago. He is so bra一ve and persevering. “But a man is not made for defeat” he said “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

Santiago was old just as Hemingway said “Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated.” He think every day is a new day. No matter how old he is. He said “It’s better to be lucky. But I would rather be exact. Then when luck comes you are ready.”

Santiago was poor； he had nothing except a little boat and harpoon. But he said “Now is no time to think of what you do not ha一ve. Think of what you can do with what there is.”

Santiago was alone. Mandolin can not go to sea with him because of his parents. He catches fishes alone. He fights with sharks alone. He can talk to nobody except himself. No one will help him.

But even though he faced hungry； weary and difficulty alone， he does not give up.

Somebody said Santiago was a failure. Because at last he said he wishes that it had been a dream and the boy cried for him can really approve it.

In this way I think Santiago was a lucky person. Because he still had Mandolin. The boy loved him and pitied him. If Mandolin had no money his own， he begged or stole to make sure that Santiago had enough to eat and fresh baits for his lines. The old man accepts his kindness with humility that was like a quiet kind of pride.

I think Santiago is a hero and he is not a failure. Because catch fish is a part of his life and it is the memory of his mind and he catch a really big fish back at last. The value of his life was completely reflected in the way he catch fish. He is the real winner in his own world.

After I think about this book and Santiago. I realized that I’m not bra一ve enough. I can not stay hopeful when I face laugh and indifferent. And I don’t ha一ve enough courage to do what I want to do. I’m so afraid of this world. I’m so afraid of the people’s words who speak it behind my back. I’m so cowardly and that’s the reason I always lose.

Now I know what to do. Don’t mind others. Be myself. I need possess the quality of reason and shay cheerful and undefeated. Be kind and happy. Be strong and optimistic.

“But man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated” has been the classic saying and the old man also has been the most typical and the most representative of the Hemingway’s “tough guy”. When Hemingway talked about the successful factors later， the little boy was mentioned in the same breath with the old man.
