1934年，艾伯特的口吃依旧，看着丈夫被无能的医生捉弄，妻子莫琳外出找到语言治疗师莱昂纳尔·罗格为丈夫治病。罗格要求王子直呼其名莱昂纳尔，并且称呼艾伯特为伯蒂，使王子紧张的气氛趋于融合；罗格的问题似乎和口吃无关：“最初是怎么变成这样的？什么时候开始的？”“我不想谈论私人问题，别惹我！”在艾伯特突然暴怒背后，罗格明白，对方定有创痛，这才是导致严重口吃的关键。罗格的话语神情似乎蕴含无形的力量，艾伯特平静了下来：“您能治好我么”？“当然”，罗格从容而有信心。罗格要艾伯特念一段话。捧起书，可艾伯特念不出声。正想扔书，罗格坚持让艾伯特戴上耳机，准备录音。
